About the Data Team

The Data Team’s mission is to strengthen access to justice by turning information into insight. We focus on transforming complex data into clear findings that help TAP improve its services, highlight tenant needs, and advocate for change.

The Data Team is TAP’s foundation for measuring impact and guiding improvement. Working alongside law students and staff, volunteers analyze information to identify trends, highlight tenant needs, and strengthen the effectiveness of TAP’s services.

Data Volunteers support TAP by:

  • Assist in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to cases, clients, and
legal services to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide insights that help the organization allocate resources efficiently and
advocate for internal policy changes to better serve our clients.
  • Key responsibilities will include data cleaning, analysis and reporting, client
    profiling, and impact assessments.
“Since working with TAP, I’ve gained an understanding of the real problems faced by tenants in terms of accessibility and equity.”

About our Data

The Data Team works with information collected across TAP’s services to better understand tenant needs and measure the program’s impact. Data comes from multiple points in the tenant journey—from the first hotline call to court observation—and helps TAP evaluate effectiveness, improve services, and advocate for change.

Hotline Data: Tracks calls, texts, and voicemails to understand how tenants use the hotline, what issues they raise, and where gaps in response may occur. This information helps TAP measure accessibility and improve client communication.

Intake Data: Compiled from online forms and volunteer-assisted entries, intake data includes tenant demographics, income, landlord details, and issue type. Reviewing this information helps TAP identify common problems and tailor resources to better serve clients.

Case-Tracking Data: Follows each case from intake to closure, recording details such as services provided, outcomes, referrals, and financial impact for tenants. This data helps TAP evaluate performance and outcomes across all cases.

Court Observation Data: Volunteers record notes from local court proceedings and submit them online. These observations provide insight into judicial behavior, tenant representation, and broader patterns in housing court practices.
