MHRP brings together research, legal services, policy innovation, and student training to address some of today’s most pressing migration challenges.

Since 2021, the program has secured more than $9 million in philanthropic commitments from foundations, corporations, and individual donors who believe durable immigration solutions require both rigorous research and practical action.

Funding Priorities

Support helps expand MHRP’s impact across six core areas:

• Legal Services: Representation for asylum seekers, farmworkers, Dreamers, and detained immigrants.
• Research & Data Tools: Development of resources such as the Migrant Rights Database and other research initiatives.
• Fellows Program: Bringing national experts to Cornell to collaborate with students and faculty.
• Transnational Litigation: Supporting global efforts to advance migrant rights through strategic litigation.
• Student Training: Expanding experiential learning opportunities for Cornell Law students.
• Geographic Expansion: Replicating successful legal services models in underserved communities nationwide.

Many of our funders have provided repeat support over multiple years and hold a wide range of philanthropic goals — regional, national, and global. We are particularly proud that MHRP has attracted significant support from funders who rarely give to universities, reflecting the distinctive and high-impact nature of our work.
